About
Why some places have more species than others is a central question in ecology. There are a plethora of proposed mechanisms that drive asymmetrical diversity patterns. Many of these proposed mechanisms place energy, or productivity, in a central role. However, the form of the relationship between species richness and and productivity is controversial. Furthermore, the form of the relationship changes with scale. In attempt to clarify the form of the relationship between animal species richness and productivity I am undertaking a review and meta-analysis of the animal species richness-productivity relationship.
